Video and Pics of Our Unforgettable Victory at Dance Power Calgary !! :)

I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the 2013 Competition Season with Terpsichore Dance.  It definitely was an unforgettable week 🙂

Dance Power Calgary definitely had it’s ups and downs but in the end the Terpsichore Dancers hung onto 1st Place Overall after their early-week performance of “He Lives”.  It was quite exciting to watch the leader board every day hoping we did what it took to stay on top.  The official results (and the party) are below!

Here’s a few more memories of this great week 🙂

Video and Pics of My week Adjudicating The Brandon Arts Festival

After some time away I want to blog about my fantastic adjudication work in Brandon, MN.  Six days of inspiring, exausting , and creative dance filled with tones of fun 🙂

It was really great to reconnect with my old friend Judy Russell.  I worked with Judy as a teacher at her dance studio in Prince George, BC back in 2009/2010. Judy is the creator and artistic director of the well-known Enchainment Dance Center.  She’s a fantastic Master Teacher and a wonderful friend.  Was so great to reconnect and share some more fun memories!

Watching the talent in Brandon was tones of fun!  Judy really enjoyed the Ballet and I loved the  tap , jazz , and hip hop. We were both very impressed at the large amount of dances these kids did in six days.  We were pooped just watching them!

Pooped after a long hard week ;)

I am very thankful for my invite there and hope that I can come back and visit soon!  Congrats to all dancers for a job Very Well Done! Especially my picks for overall scholarships and High Score Awards.  Some of which include: Colby Pilling for his extraordinary tappy feet , Kyra Levoie for her stand out personality on stage, Jayden and Alexa Case for some terrific technique, the Hip Hop Diva (watch out Beyonce)- Ayreanna Pierre, the artistic animations of Brett Chrest, and the beautiful singing Ballerina – Victoria  Rust.  You all inspired me!!!

Tap Dancing Workshop in Calgary: A Historical Weekend!

Finally some time to write about what was an amazing and historical weekend of tap dancing in Calgary.  It was two days of… wake up, tap, eat, tap , tap, sleep, !! I loved it! The mix of having four professional Calgarian dancers along with Lady Dianne Walker was just a dream!  I learned so much and was so happy to see such a great turn out!

It appeared that anyone serious about tap in Calgary, and beyond, showed up to the workshop!  It was a great turn out and I’m happy Tasha Lawson made such a great return to town! She put together a great line up which is exactly what the Calgary Tap scene needed.  And can we mention Dianne Walker!!

Wow!  This lady is like a tap “hall of fame” Star!  There is so much to say about all the wonderful moments that happened with Dianne this weekend but I think the most memorable was when she was brought to tears when talking about how happy she was that tap is in a good place and is all over North America.

Dianne shared with us how her generation of tap dancers literally saved tap dancing! Dianne’s genration, including Honi Coles, Buster Brown, Gregory Hines, Jimmy Slyde, and so many more, were actually a dying generation of tap dancers as tap was becoming “extinct.”   Dianne tells of how her mother’s generation were ALL tap dancing.  It sounded like tap dancing was then what yoga is today.  Everyone did it and everyone knew how!

Im not sure what caused the decline of the art form , but Dianne shares that they were desperately trying to save it in her day!  Dianne commented that one of the biggest catalyst to saving Tap was the love and passion of tap dancing from a young Savion Glover.  It was Savion who brought tap to the young people in a new and fresh way!  Dianne thanks God he did because she saw this weekend the result of all that effort they made back then.

It was very interesting to be a part of this weekend partly because of my good friendship with faculty member Lisa Latouche. Lisa and I have been friends for over 16 years  I was there when Lisa disovered that Tap Dancing was what she wanted to do with the rest of her life.  I would recieve messages from her telling me how amazing New York and Chicago are.

I watched and heard Lisa eat up all kinds of Tap Video including Savion Glover . And she mentioned many times how much she adored Dianne Walker. It’s been quite inspiring to watch Lisa follow her dreams and become one of the most successful Tap Dancers Canada has ever seen!

What a great weekend!  Definitely historical.  I can’t wait to be part of the next chapter!
